Projects

There are currently 5 areas of research that are being formulated or are ongoing at CILP:

Debtor Advice, Debtor Education and the Credit Environment

John Tribe and Leyanda Cocks are currently looking at the present system of debtor advice, debtor education and the current credit environment. In order to achieve this they will be investigating those companies offering advice to debtors and collating data as to the types of advice available to consumers. They will explore the various global approaches to debtor education. Those methods best suited to England and Wales will be trialed in a pilot workshop scheme aimed at the reeducation of a cross section of debtors in the Kingston and Croydon area. Finally, they will be examining the current credit environment in relation to lending practices and the correlation between them and the continued high level of IVAs and bankruptcies in England and Wales.

It is hoped that the substantive research will be complete by April 2007, with a full report to follow shortly after.

Bankruptcy Court Survey 2005

John Tribe undertook a survey of six bankruptcy courts in England and Wales during 2005. This 222 page report, entitled: Bankruptcy Courts Survey 2005 – A Pilot Study, was presented at a seminar held at the Insolvency Service on the 30th January 2006.
