Sir Francis Jacobs KCMG QC – Professor of Law at King’s College, London; former Advocate General at the European Court of Justice.

Sir Francis Jacobs legal career spans four decades. He worked at the European Commission for Human Rights (now the European Court of Human Rights) in the Council of Europe in Strasbourg. He then worked in Luxembourg at the European Court of Justice. In 1974 he was appointed to the newly created Chair of European Law at the University of London. From 1988 to 2006 he served as an Advocate General at the European Court of Justice. He joined King’s College London as Professor of Law in 2006.
Sir Francis is currently also President of European Law Institute, Vienna and a member of the Privy Council. He was knighted in 2006.
