Eric Jeanpierre to address the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Translation

Kingston University Law School’s Eric Jeanpierre has been invited to address the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Translation in both Luxembourg and Brussels on 9 and 10 March 2016. Eric Jeanpierre’s talk will be on the pitfalls of legal translations between different legal families, with a focus on French to English.
The Directorate-General for Translation (DGT) translates from a wide range of languages on a wide range of subjects for the various directorates-general of the Commission. A major ongoing project for the DGT is the Commission's E-Justice Portal, which explains the legal systems and procedures of all the different EU countries in the 24 official EU languages. Related to this project, Eric Jeanpierre’s talk will focus mainly on providing advice on the difficulties in translating not only legal terms, but also legal concepts.
