The Environmental Law and Sustainability LLM is one of the cross-faculty multidisciplinary courses under the umbrella of the Sustainability Hub developed with the objectives to addressing priorities related to the environmental and sustainability in a multidisciplinary way.
The essence of the Environmental Law and Sustainability LLM is that, within an advanced academic context, you will engage with a range of legal issues relating to the environment and sustainability. Matters considered will include, for example, the legal framework for the protection of the environment; the legal rules and policies relating to environmental protection within the European Union and at the international level; the concept of sustainability as a policy consideration and its contribution to informing the legal protection of the environment; and the impact of international economic law on the policies relating to sustainability.
On completion of the programme, you will have advanced your knowledge and understanding, and enhanced your appreciation, of a range of issues of contemporary importance relating to the environment and sustainability.
What will you study?
You take two core modules; two option modules from an extensive list; plus legal research theory and dissertation modules. You may also choose postgraduate modules related to the environment from other departments of the University, in particular the Faculty of Science (Geology, Geography and the Environment School) and the Faculty of Art, Design and Architecture (School of Planning). This possibility enhances multidisciplinary perspectives in the understanding and study of the environment and its protection.
